Dentistry
The importance of dental health is often overlooked by pet owners. The mouth is an important gateway into the body, and this is where excessive bacteria can enter the bloodstream and spread to the major organs. Beyond bad breath, dental disease has been associated with liver, kidney, and heart disease. A dental cleaning is a great solution to remove built up tartar and helps improve your companion animal’s overall health. This cleaning is usually done between 3-5 years of age and then every 1-2 years as needed. A dental cleaning usually helps to improve that horrible breath pets can develop. A dental also prolongs your animal’s life by preventing bacterial spread into vital organs.
Home care is also important and we offer many solutions including flavored/edible toothpastes, special ergonomic tooth brushes, tasteless/odorless water additives, oral rinses, once weekly plaque prevention kits (OraVet), and dental treats with enzymatic properties. All of these can help to reduce tartar buildup on your companion animal’s teeth before or after a dental cleaning. Not all animals will allow brushing and this is why we offer so many different options for our clients. It is extremely important to start these preventatives at an early age so that the animal learns to tolerate them and also to delay dental problems. It is never too late to start, please call or come in to speak with one of our staff and discuss the best option for your companion animal.
