Each year the Atlantic
Animal Hospital team joins other teams in our community to participate in the
fight against cancer. Participating teams camp out and take turns walking or
running around a track for 24 hours in what we call the Relay for Life. This
event, sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS), brings together hundreds
of participating communities, all with the goal to eliminate cancer by raising
money for increasing awareness, research, and ultimately saving lives.
At the event you will find themed booths set up by supporting teams, each there to support the cause, raise awareness in their own way and to send the Relay for Life message of Hope. Cancer survivors are honored by leading the first lap around the track. This is known as the survivors lap which sets off the 24 hour relay by displaying each survivor’s courage and perseverance in the cancer battle. Luminaries are also lit and placed around the track at night fall in honor of someone fighting cancer, one who has beaten it, or in memory of ones lost to the disease. Luminaries are available for purchase prior to the relay at our facility or at http://www.relayforlife.org/.
This year, the Atlantic
Animal Hospital booth is themed “Dog Park”. “Get a Leash on Cancer” dog leashes
for $10.00 and microchip raffle tickets for $5.00 will be available for purchase
at Atlantic Animal Hospital before the event and will also be available at our
booth on the days of the relay. In addition, a variety of dog park themed foods
will be available for sale at the Relay. All proceeds raised for the event by
our team will go to the ACS.
Join us in the Relay for Life at the Prince of Peace Church, 600 South Nova Road, in Ormond Beach on April 18 from 5pm to April 19 2008 as we work to honor cancer survivors, support this cause and work to make a difference.
If you are interested in making a donation for a luminary for a loved one, family, friend or companion animal or need more information, please contact Atlantic Animal Hospital at 386-441-PETS (7387).
