Dr. Aman Sukhija is the Owner and Medical Director of Atlantic Animal Hospital, since his purchase of the establishment in July 2005. He and his wife, Leslie VanWinkle-Sukhija, also the Director of Human Resources, strive to provide a welcoming, educational environment for all of Atlantic Animal Hospital's clients, in addition to a medically advanced, comfortable environment for all of our esteemed patients. He has been previously licensed in Ohio and Kentucky and currently carries a Florida State Veterinary License. Prior to moving to Ormond Beach, he practiced emergency and critical care medicine and surgery at a 24-hour animal hospital in Miami, Florida. Before that, he worked at two of the Midwest's largest veterinary practices, located in Cincinnati, Ohio and Fort Wright, Kentucky.

Dr. Sukhija went to undergraduate school at Indiana University from 1993-1997, where he majored in science and math and minored in biology. He attended Ross University and Purdue University schools of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2001.

Dr. Sukhija has been involved with many organizations including AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) and the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) since 1998. He has also been a member of AAVA (American Academy of Acupuncturists) during 2002-2006, VECCS (Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society) during 2003-2005, SFVMA (South Florida Veterinary Medical Society) in 2005, FVMA (Florida Veterinary Medical Association) since 2005, and the VCVMA (Volusia County Veterinary Medical Association) since 2006, in which he also serves as an officer.

Dr. Sukhija's experience prior to veterinary school includes an internship at the Indianapolis Zoo-African Plains; working as a technician at a private small animal practice; and volunteering at the Bloomington, Indiana Humane Society. Looking back at his childhood, he remembers a life changing experience when he lost his canine companion at the age of nine. Carter was his eleventh dog by that age. Unfortunately, Carter succumbed to a severe gastrointestinal disease and this loss changed Dr. Sukhija's life forever. This was the first human-animal bond experience for him and the one that eventually led to him becoming a veterinarian.

Dr. Sukhija has interest in small animal general and laser surgery, emergency medicine, critical care, and acupuncture. Their companion animals include a ten-year-old rescued dog, Nelli, an eleven-year-old cat, Nicolas, and a three-year-old rescued dog, Laila.
