Dr. Aman Sukhija is the owner and Medical Director of Atlantic Animal Hospitals, since his purchase of the Ormond Beach establishment in July 2005. He and his wife, Leslie VanWinkle-Sukhija, strive to provide a welcoming, educational environment for all of our clients, in addition to a medically advanced, comfortable environment for all of our esteemed patients.

Dr. Sukhija attended undergraduate school at Indiana University from 1993-1997, where he majored in science and math and minored in biology. He attended Ross University and Purdue University Schools of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2001. Dr. Sukhija has been involved with many organizations including AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) and the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) since 1998. He currently serves as Veterinary Director on the AAHA Board of Directors. Dr. Sukhija has been a member of FVMA (Florida Veterinary Medical Association) since 2005, and the VFVMA (Volusia Flagler Veterinary Medical Association) since 2006, in which he currently serves as the President.

Dr. Sukhija's experience prior to veterinary school includes an internship at the Indianapolis Zoo-African Plains; working as a technician at a private small animal practice; and volunteering at the Bloomington, Indiana Humane Society. Looking back at his childhood, he remembers a life-changing experience when he lost his canine companion, a Sheltie, at the age of nine. Unfortunately, Carter succumbed to a severe gastrointestinal disease and this loss changed Dr. Sukhija's life forever. This was the first human-animal bond experience for him and the one that eventually led to him becoming a veterinarian. Dr. Sukhija has interest in general medicine, geriatric wellness, emergency medicine, critical care, and surgery.

On December 26, 2008, Dr. Sukhija and Leslie lovingly welcomed the addition of their first daughter, Rhyse, to their family. Their companion animals include a twelve-year-old rescued dog, Nelli from Saint Kitts, West Indies, a five-year-old rescued dog, Laila from Miami, FL, and a two-year-old rescued cat, Shimla from Deleon Springs, FL.
