February is National Pet Dental Health Month
Like humans, cats and dogs need routine home care of their teeth and gums through daily brushing to prevent oral disease. If left untreated, plaque buildup may lead to periodontitis and other health problems, including bad breath, red, swollen and tender gums, receding gums, bleeding, pain and eventually tooth loss. Infections caused by periodontal disease may become even more serious, potentially damaging the heart, liver, and kidneys.
Since 1995, the American
Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), American Veterinary Dental Society
(AVDS), and Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. have co-sponsored an annual "Pets
Need Dental Care, Too" campaign during February—National Pet Dental Health
Month. This February's campaign continues to promote the program's goal of
educating pet owners on the importance of regular, professional dental care for
their canine and feline companions. In order to raise awareness about dental
disease, Atlantic Animal Hospital is offering the following incentives to you
and your companion animals.
